Alright alright, sheesh, can’t a fella crack a joke no more?

Back in the day when I actually bought physical discs, I always went the second hand or 50%-off route. I simply didn’t see the reason why I’d have to have a song that was playing on the radio all the time on my shelf. The metal stuff I just traded with friends (something the industry hates of course, because it allegedly loses them sales…).

Even before the advent of broadband, I enjoyed P2P systems such as Audiogalaxy, unwittingly protesting the adherence to the antiquated distribution formula. This was how I wanted to experience music. Not necessarily free of charge, but free of restrictions to disc readers, which were and still are cumbersome, especially on the go. Sitting at my PC which was hooked to my stereo playing MP3 was the status quo. Little did I know it would take the industry close to 10 years to finally give in and give me what I wanted via iTunes, YouTube (I expect they will have some kind of revenue system eventually, right?) and the like.

They’ve taught me 10 years that the right way to get the stuff that I want is stealing while at the same time putting me on the same level as a rapist. And now they expect me to learn the monetary value of music again? Golden toilet seats? Sod them, I say.

Oh and Metallica? Caught them live for the first time just after St.Anger was out. Pretty meh. They’ve had their ups and downs, with the Black Album certainly being the peak. But just because I enjoyed a couple of songs a band made I don’t owe them any allegiance. Nobody calls me a criminal!

Live free, Die hard. Or something along those lines.
